Our Veg Box Scheme

High Quality, Nutritious Fruit & Veg. Freshly Harvested Before Delivery. Moss Lane Farm Community supported Agriculture is far more than a conventional veg box scheme. We’re a Farmer-led  Social Enterprise and a community-run local food enterprise run by a volunteer management team and paid growers. We grow to organic principles, using Argroecology farming methods. MLF CSA members subscribe for a weekly veg selection of whatever available in season. The monthly subscription system provides a guaranteed market and steady income that enables us to plan ahead and keep our social enterprise up and running.

Community Supported Agriculture Scheme

We’re a friendly, fun-loving group who work together to operate a community supported agriculture scheme for many reasons:

  • Love of fresh, local, seasonal and climate-friendly food
  • Need to know where our vegetables come from and how they’re grown
  • Support for local food producers and small-scale growers
  • Care for the countryside, biodiversity, healthy soil and agroecology practices
  • Want to reduce waste, plastic use, carbon emissions and food miles
  • Wish to be involved in growing, harvesting and sharing out the produce
  • Concern for good health, community wellbeing and quality of life
  • Willingness to run a community-led  business and to share the risks and rewards

How the scheme works:

To sign up for a veg scheme you pay a monthly share of the costs of growing the produce and receive a
weekly box of seasonal veg as your share of the Harvest. You’ll be eating things like tomatoes, beans and
courgettes in the summer, brussels sprouts, parsnips, carrots in the winter and plenty of salads and leafy
greens most of the year.

What is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)?

CSA helps address increasing concerns about the lack of transparency, sustainability and resilience of our
food system. It’s a way that we can retake control and ownership of our food system working alongside
Nature .Our members pay a share of the cost of producing local organic produce and in return for a
regular share of the harvest. With no middle person and minimum distribution being a member you get
much more than just a box of veg. You’ll get to know exactly where your food comes from and you can
visit the farm, learn how it’s grown, meet the growers, lend a helping hand and get to know our other
members.

About Us

We are a young Family living on a 22 acre Organic farm in the heart of Barton Moss. We Grow local, seasonal fruit and vegetables using organic no dig methods, these approaches nurture the soil and care for our environment and grow healthier foods. We are proud to be the first certified organic farm in Salford, our aim is to be part of developing a more resilient food system by re-localising our food production using agroecological farming methods.
We Believe people should have access to good quality, fresh organic food grown seasonally instead of being shipped halfway around the world! We also produce our very honey from our hives.Home rare breed sheep, healthy hens, pigs and horses.

How we support our community:

● Access to healthy local food
● Affordable fresh organic produce
● In Becoming more resilient by encouraging more agroecological farming methods on Chat Moss
● Education
● Provide work/skills
● outdoor working space next to nature in a tranquil setting

How our community supports us:

● Our Sole income
● Voluntary help
● Friendly commitment to help us keep Farming

The Success of the scheme will rely on the local people to by-local. The more local people involved the bigger the support for a local food production on Chat Moss.

The pandemic has not only highlighted the fragility of human well-being but of our Global food system too. Through a re-localized food production we become more resilient to the unpredictability of our
Future.

Moss Lane Farm are also proud to be accredited by the Better Food Traders. The Better Food Trader accreditation sets the gold standard for food retail practice: it tells you that the food we trade is farmed sustainably, and the way we trade is fair
to workers and kind to the environment. The Better Food Traders network is on
a mission to provide an ethically-driven alternative to the mainstream, big business
food system. We make it easy for people to choose climate- and people- friendly
food whilst also working together to prove we can change the food system.
